About the writer

The writer, born in 1947 in The Hague, grew up at a time when homosexuality was still a taboo in the Netherlands. Already in high school, he sometimes noticed feelings for other boys. He studied chemistry at the University of Utrecht. Then he comes to work in the business of his father and builds that up. He also marries a nice woman and get 2 sons (and by now five grandsons). If homosexuality is accepted in the Netherlands in this century, the sons have founded a private family and the company has been transferred to them the feelings for men get the upper hand, and he comes out of the closet. But then he is over 65 years old already. He’s going to do voluntary work and in India comes a man providing instant one click. He struggles to survive as many joining him on his journeys in India but faces similar stereotypes as he did fifty years ago in the Netherlands. Now he lives together with him as much as possible, both in India and in the Netherlands. Because the Indian lover wishes to continue living in India and the author, as a Dutchman, cannot migrate to India, they have to find a unique balance between the two, by staying in hotels in India, and a flat in the Netherlands.
